The Highland Nest

Set in the outskirts of Edinburgh, The Highland Nest was envisioned as a modern interpretation of a traditional Scottish cottage. The clients, a retired couple returning to their roots, sought a home that honored local heritage while embracing contemporary comfort.

Our design team focused on layering textures—stone, wool, and aged oak—to create a tactile and emotionally resonant environment. The layout was reconfigured to support aging-in-place, with wide circulation paths, integrated lighting controls, and a ground-floor master suite. A reading nook overlooking the moors became the heart of the home, framed by custom-built shelving and soft ambient lighting.

This project reflects how thoughtful design can preserve cultural identity while adapting to modern lifestyles. The Highland Nest now serves as a warm, welcoming retreat for its owners and their extended family.
